As your therapist, I adopt a collaborative way of working with each individual client. I do not tell the client what to do, nor do I simply sit back whilst the client does all the talking. Instead, both the client and I work together to identify and agree on what issues, difficulties or problems they wish to address during the sessions. This ensures that there is no power imbalance in the therapeutic relationship. Both the client and I jointly set attainable goals and we agree on how best to work towards them.
My approach is unique in the sense that it is not all about the client “talking” and me “listening”. Where necessary, an integrated approach of Counselling, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) tools and Cognitive Behavioural Coaching (CBC) is used to make the sessions more directive and proactive when dealing with each client’s issues, difficulties and problems.
“NO NONSENSE” APPROACH
As your therapist, I adopt a “no nonsense” approach and way of working. If something isn’t working then we will find a suitable alternative which does work. If you feel that the sessions aren’t helping you then by letting me know we can make the necessary changes required to suit your emotional needs. If you are not happy with me working as your therapist and you believe the therapeutic relationship between you and I isn’t working then the working agreement will be brought to an end. I do not believe in continuing sessions unless you find them helpful or feel they are making a positive difference to your emotional wellbeing.
My priority is YOU! I always ensure that all sessions are flexible and compassionate to your emotional needs. Although all sessions are structured and goal-orientated I understand that this is not always possible or realistic. There will be times when you just want to “blow off steam” and all you will want is someone to listen to you and hear how you feel. During these times, we will use the session to give you the breathing space that you need to work through any issues.
